About the Role

The Volunteer & Corporate Partnerships Manager is responsible for managing MSP’s volunteer program and the associated donor and corporate partnerships. This position supports the stewardship of corporate funders, groups, and individual volunteers through effective management of MSP’s volunteer program and in-kind giving initiatives. Responsibilities include training, recruitment, administration, evaluation, and retention of the volunteer pool required to support the agency’s programs and services, as well as effective management of MSP’s in-kind giving program.

While MSP is a hybrid workplace, this position will have in-person expectations based on volunteer events, donation drop-offs, and cultivation needs, up to 3 days/week.

About My Sister’s Place

My Sister’s Place is a community of staff, volunteers, and advocates committed to eradicating domestic violence. As DC’s oldest domestic violence shelter, we have served as a cornerstone of the district’s response to this pressing public health issue since 1979. MSP is unique in offering a continuum of care from emergency shelter through transitional-to-permanent housing. Our experienced team of case managers and residential counselors provide clinical counseling, case management, and comprehensive services to empower survivors to recover and thrive. MSP also provides training, case consultation, and advocacy to engage communities to prevent violence and abuse.

What You’ll Be Doing

Partner Stewardship & Engagement 

o With oversight from the Development Director, design, implement, track, and manage a portfolio of high-value donor groups and corporate partners with volunteer participation. Fulfill partnership deliverables and ensure maximum benefit to both parties.

o Engage staff leadership on the personalized engagement of key donors and partners to ensure their volunteer and charitable gifts are properly stewarded.

o Provide oversight and management of corporate partner volunteer and cultivation events. Attend all volunteer events in person as staff point of contact.

o Develop and deliver presentations to internal and/or external stakeholders.

o Conduct corporate community outreach and network with key groups to build organizational presence in the corporate community.

o Field corporate and group volunteer inquiries and requests, and respond promptly (within 1 business day)

o Coordinate in-kind donation drives with groups and corporate partners for all MSP priorities (e.g holiday toy drive, coat drive, back-to-school drive, welcome bags, etc.), with input from program and development staff.

o Develop a list of businesses that give regular, high quality in-kind gifts and coordinate drop-offs at storage units, admin, or shelter as appropriate.

o Acquire all necessary in-kind gift documentation from donors for receipting purposes and store in Sharepoint and DonorPerfect

o Maintain in kind gift inventory in the shelter basement and storage units on a monthly basis

o Maintain and update Amazon in-kind Wish Lists

 

Volunteer Management 

o Administer the volunteer database, ensuring records are accurate, current, and have appropriate notes. This includes data entry, project planning, and scheduling.

o Prepare and present orientation materials for new volunteers.

o Create and distribute information on volunteer policies and procedures.

o Provide general oversight and management of volunteer coordination, maintaining and nurturing volunteer professionalism

o Field volunteer inquiries and requests, and respond promptly (within 1 business day).

o Write project descriptions for volunteer work, events, and projects.

o Coordinates with HR Team to ensure volunteers are properly background-checked, and that there is a record of volunteers’ information and work.

o Selects volunteers in coordination with relevant department managers.

o Tracks volunteer hours

o Plans and executive volunteer appreciation events in coordination with the Communications team

 

Qualifications

o Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of related volunteer project management and/or development experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

o Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders

o Strong communication skills – comfortable relaying MSP’s mission and impact to partners and the community.

o High attention to detail.

o Critical thinking and proactive problem solving – able to provide ideas for streamlining and coordinating across our team, and proactively implement work.

o Ability to learn and maintain systems and databases.

o Proven ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.

o Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and communities.
